I used to picture God as perpetually disappointed in His people, peering down depressed and dismayed over how things are going. Until it dawned on me that He can’t be disappointed in someone He already knew completely before He made them (Psalm 139v16). To put it personally, this means that no version of you catches Him off guard. It means He’s not pacing heaven waiting for you to shape up somehow. He’s a good Father who loves you in the struggle, not just after the victory.
