If you haven’t forgiven someone yet, it doesn’t mean you’re failing God. It might just mean you’re still healing. Forgiveness doesn’t come from trying harder. It comes from understanding how much God has already forgiven you (Ephesians 4v32). That grasp on grace is what softens your heart toward the one who hurt you. In time, compassion will follow. And when it does, forgiving won’t feel like a decision you worked up from willpower. It will feel natural. That’s what grace does; it grows in you what willpower never could.
