I hear it all the time: “Jesus is the perfect balance of grace and truth.” Often, it’s said like He’s both a hug and a spanking. But in the verse it’s based on (John 1:14), “truth” isn’t law or discipline. The word is aletheia, meaning an unveiling. Jesus didn’t come to balance kindness with correction. Nor to give justification for being a “jerk for Jesus.” He came to unveil who God truly is: unconditional love on full display. In other words, Jesus isn’t grace plus something else. He is grace embodied.
