One of the most surprising things about God’s love is how fully it accepts us. I know, we’re often told you can love people without loving everything about them. But God’s love (agape) isn’t like that. His love doesn’t come with disclaimers. It doesn’t say, “I love you…as long as you change.” Agape love envelops the whole person. Jesus showed this again and again: touching the leper, welcoming the outcast and ultimately giving His life on the cross. “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5v8). Not “after,” but “while.” That’s God’s love, meeting us exactly where we are and loving us completely with no asterisks, if or buts.
