Two words the world cannot ignore: “I forgive.” They echo the voice of our Savior on the cross: “Father, forgive them.” And Stephen as stones were thrown: “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” These words, sung by martyrs in Roman arenas and whispered by early believers in the face of hatred, are the evidence of Christ alive in us. And they fueled the explosive growth of Christianity—4 million percent in its first 300 years. So as the world sees forgiveness unfold once again, may it recognize the Spirit of Jesus who makes it possible. May this be more than a moment. May it be the beginning of a mercy-centered movement.
