What You Call a Flaw, God Calls a Feature

For much of my life, I tried to fix things about myself that never needed fixing.

I was an introvert in a world that rewarded extroverts. A self-described tech geek at a time when that wasn’t exactly cool. Even my theology was built from various Christian influences that some had a hard time pinning down.

I spent years uncomfortable in my own skin, convinced that if I could just become someone different, I would finally be OK.

It didn’t work. But looking back, I think God was up to something in that.

Because I’ve come to understand that the things we try to change about ourselves may not be problems God wants to solve. They may be the very things He intends to use.

Your personality isn’t a liability. Your history isn’t disqualifying. The parts of yourself that make you feel like you don’t quite fit may be features waiting for the right context.

I found that my insecurities and my geekiness—things I once saw as liabilities—became the foundation of this ministry. Coupled with my theology, they are what led me to create the Shut Up, Devil app.

Turns out, I didn’t have to become someone else. I just had to stop fighting who I already was.

That’s easier said than done, I know. But learning to see yourself the way God sees you as someone uniquely designed, not accidentally assembled, is where peace with yourself—and purpose—actually begins.
