By Lately on social media, my blog and The Shut Up Devil Show, I’ve been diving into the topic of spiritual warfare.
(It always seems to surface more in October.)
One passage that comes up more than any other is Ephesians 6—the full armor of God.
Paul urges us to “put it on” (Ephesians 6:11).
For years, I thought that meant a daily ritual, like suiting up for battle each morning.
But here’s what I’ve learned: the Greek word for “put on” actually means “to sink into.” It’s not about striving; it’s about settling into what’s already yours.
It’s about accepting and identifying with the protection and position you already have in Christ.
Paul goes on to say that this armor helps us “stand.” In fact, he uses the word stand three times in just the first few verses.
That’s no accident.
Because spiritual warfare isn’t about defeating the devil; it’s about standing in the victory of the One who already did.
Jesus finished the fight. Our role now is to remember:
- who you are in Christ.
- the evil one cannot touch you (1 John 5:18).
- you are safe, secure and sealed in Him.
The armor of God isn’t a weapon to wage war; it’s a reminder of your identity.
The helmet of salvation protects your mind from lies about your standing with God. The breastplate of righteousness guards your new self from shame and condemnation.
Every piece declares: “I am who God says I am.”

So next time fear creeps in or the enemy whispers lies, don’t panic. Don’t strive. Just stand.
Stand firm in truth.
Stand firm in grace.
Stand firm in Jesus.
Because you’re not trying to win… you’re wearing the win.
