By Undoubtedly, the Bible encourages you to develop a godly life.
Not to get God to love you more. (His love is unconditional.)
It’s for your benefit. God doesn’t want anything to get in the way of the abundant life that Jesus died for you to have.
The problem is that most people try to fight flesh with flesh. (Such as with a bunch of self-discipline and rule following.) And that doesn’t work.
