The Lie Rejection Told Me… and the Truth That Healed Me

Have you ever felt like rejection meant you weren’t good enough to succeed? That it disqualified you somehow?

I did. Growing up, I was the outcast—the kid picked last, the one sitting alone.

That daily rejection planted a lie in me: “I am a reject.”

And for years, I believed it. I thought I wasn’t good enough for people… not even for God. I thought I was in constant need of fixing.

But here’s what I’ve learned: rejection doesn’t cancel your purpose. It often clarifies it.

As I shared in my recent blog about healing rejection in the brain, science shows us that rejection activates the same area of the brain as physical pain.

When rejection is repeated, especially in childhood, it shapes the brain to expect rejection, even when it’s not happening.

This is called neuroplasticity, and it explains why so many people live in fear of being hurt again.

Spiritually, rejection distorts identity.

It whispers lies like “You’re unwanted” or “You’re broken.”

But God’s Word says something different.

It affirms that your calling isn’t based on who accepts you. It’s based on who chose you.

“Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ.” —Ephesians 1:4

I had to renew my mind with this truth. I accepted it, reflected upon it, often spoke it aloud, and over time, it rewired how I saw myself.

Now I want to speak directly to you.

If you’ve been rejected, you’re not disqualified. You’re not forgotten. You’re not broken beyond repair. You’re not unable to succeed.

No way!

You are chosen. You are loved. You are accepted. Still called. Still chosen.

And that rejection pain? In time, you’ll see—it didn’t weaken you. It seasoned you to succeed… uniquely.
