I used to live like God was keeping score.
Every mistake felt like a mark against me. Every failure, a debt I had to repay.
I feared that one day, the tally would be too high, and I’d lose His love.
I shared the scripture that set me free in my last post, but I know how hard it can be to truly grasp. So I wanted to revisit it, because it’s just that liberating:
“God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them.” —2 Corinthians 5:19
Do you see it? No longer counting.
That truth hit me like a wave of grace.
God isn’t keeping a sin ledger. He’s not waiting to punish me. He’s not disappointed in me. Because of Jesus, the scorecard was shredded at the cross. (See Colossians 2:14.)
Embracing this was a turning point.
I stopped living to earn forgiveness and started living from it. I stopped fearing God’s wrath and started enjoying His presence. I stopped obsessing over my imperfections and started celebrating His perfection.
Friend, if you’ve been living under the weight of guilt, hear this: God isn’t counting your sins. He’s counting you in.
You’re not disqualified. You’re not disapproved. You’re not dirty.
You’re loved. You’re clean. You’re free.
This isn’t a license to sin; it’s power to live.
Because when you know you’re not being judged, you stop hiding. You stop pretending. And you start healing.
So today, let go of the scorecard. God already has. And start living like someone whose debt has been paid in full.
The defeat of the sin’s power is just one of the ways the cross changed everything. Want to know the others? I unpack them all in my series, The Turning Point: 4 Ways Jesus’ Death and Resurrection Changed Everything. Get all 5 MP3s today for your donation of any amount.
